Save Your Driving Time For Site-Seeing
Well-situated in the HEART of the Hills, we are near MOUNT RUSHMORE, Custer State Park (for the ultimate viewing of buffalo, elk, antelope, wild burros and other wildlife), Wind Cave National Park, Jewel Cave National Monument, Crazy Horse Memorial, Black Elk Wilderness, Needles Highway, Cathedral Spires, mountain lakes (Sheridan, Pactola, Sylvan, Deerfield, Stockade, Legion, Bismarck), BLACK ELK PEAK formerly Harney Peak, Norbeck Scenic Byway, the 111 mile long Centennial Trail. Come see and do.

Over the years (going on 15) many satisfied customers have taken time to write genuinely fond, online reviews on Trip Advisor (Mountains To Prairies Bed and Breakfast) and on Vrbo (Black Hills Home Cabins), as well as heart-warming notes in the guest book on the cleanliness, comfort and friendliness of the established hospitality business that was cheerfully intermingled as Mountains To Prairies B&B and Black Hills Home Cabins. We had, in the last seven years or so, begun renting our guest nests as cabin style (at lower rates than our bed and breakfast rates), mostly due to the happy expressions of our guests who often referred to their space as their CABIN! We love the excitement about cabins, and so that is what our vacation rental business transition will settle into, just on a smaller scale than what we grew into for 15 years with the help of two delightful summer-granddaughters.

We love that this property and our "other" property are both in the beating heart of a charming mountain town, especially since Hill City is so friendly and homey, with easy access to the Mickelson Trail, as well as brimming with history. And we love the central location in the beautiful Black Hills National Forest. Hill City truly is the HEART of the Hills!

We have so many delightful choices for recreational direction at either property that we often pause before driving into our adventure and inquire of each other, 'Which way should we go?' One of our favorite things to do is to take the scenic drive to Sylvan Lake and hike around the lake, soaking in the beauty from granite vantage points along the way. Another favorite is to take the scenic drive along Mount Rushmore Road and park at Horsethief Lake, where we can begin at the boardwalk for a hike around the lake. Serene and beautiful! Often on Sunday afternoons, we will pick a way to go to Custer State Park or perhaps Wind Cave National Park, where we may begin our adventure with a nap, then view buffalo and other wildlife, and go for a nature walk.

We look forward to meeting you in person and sharing the beautiful Black Hills that are our home. This is now, yes, about transition, and it is our last year at our first special place—April 1 we sold Mountains To Prairies and it has been renamed Mountain Peaks Inn. We remain as managers to be your host and hostess through March, 2022. In April of 2022 the new owners will be host and hostess at Mountain Peaks Inn. And we will again be host and hostess . . . at our new Black Hills Home Cabins place.

We are deeply grateful for the glorious years we have been blessed to enjoy getting to know so many of the wonderful travelers who visit the Black Hills. And we are excited in looking forward to meeting many more, when we are re-located and re-established to again offer beautiful cabin accommodations—one or two—here in Hill City.
