Each cabin has its own private outside entry door,
and a service entry door from a hallway within the house
which locks on both sides, assuring your privacy.
Along with this cabin-style atmosphere,
enjoy the bounty of conveniences and friendliness
found in our historic mountain town, Hill City.

The East Main Street side of our home-based business
features a storefront presence with a log-railed deck
for guests and customers to enjoy.
Not quite downtown, this location is appealing
for our in-house
SMILING BEAR ANTIQUES SHOP and ESPRESSO BAR,
available to you, with our pleasure,
as fun additions to your shopping experience in Hill City.
Our shop hours are typically 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
We have been in business here going into 11 years
(renting vacation accommodations,
selling antiques and making espressos).

Rent ONE cabin, or BOTH.
Reserving both cabins is a favorable solution
for extended families and couples traveling together.
Rates for each cabin represent double occupancy.
For more than double occupancy in either cabin,
we have modest additional guest rates.
CHILDREN are welcome.

Little Prairie Cabin bears some resemblance to Chessie
in that it is nearly all wrapped with knotty pine,
but many aspects are reminiscent of homesteading on the prairie.
Find the rising sun, the moon and the big dipper in this cabin!
The large round copper sink embossed with vining wild flowers
rests atop a hand-crafted vanity.
Two walls consist of salvaged pumphouse wood
from the farm where the owner grew up.

Home Sweet In-Home Cabin In Town
Your IN-HOME cabin—Chessie or Little Prairie Cabin—is within our home, ✧ with a personal outside entry✧ private to your party, ✧ not a stand-alone cabin, ✧ not out in the remote woods. ✧ Another way to say it might be, a home sweet in-home cabin in town! ✧ A service entry door from a hallway within our home locks on both sides, assuring your privacy.  Our home-based retail business and vacation rental accommodations are situated IN ✧ Hill City, which is essentially out in the piney woods, a small (and very charming) mountain town in the ✧ CENTRAL Black Hills, an excellent location for  adventuring out in any direction on the scenic highways that take you to your planned activities, and  having foot access to a wonderful selection of in-town conveniences, such as shopping and dining. ✧ More below...

IN HILL CITY
Sometimes we want the best of both worlds.
Our Black Hills In-Home Cabins can give you that satisfaction.
You can indulge yourself in the atmosphere of a cabin vacation
while having everything you need or want within walking distance.

Don't miss the historic tourist attraction...
Black Hills Central Railroad's 1880 Train,
stationed just across the street.
For exercise, or bird and wildlife viewing,
the popular George S. Mickelson Trail
meanders through town along Railroad Avenue
with the north end of the trail accessed
along our East Main Street sidewalk...
and bike rentals are just a couple of blocks away.
Hill City has two laundromats.
For your grocery needs, Hill City's full grocery store
Krull's Market, is only a few blocks away.
We hike several bags of groceries home nearly every day.
A number of churches grace this small community, too.
Probably you will devote some leisurely time to
historic downtown Hill City.
That's where you will find everything
from a hair salon to filet mignon
to dreamy ice cream, glorious pie and homemade fudge
to a world class dinosaur museum.
You will savor the choices of cafes, grills and restaurants
for breakfast, lunch and dinner!
Delve into the adventure:
Explore various unique shops and galleries...
discover antiques, local art and fine gifts,
as well as trinkets and t-shirts.
We would be delighted if you would visit our own
Smiling Bear Antiques and Espresso Bar
on the East Main Street side of our home!

Save Your Driving Time For Site-Seeing
Well-situated in the HEART of the Hills, we are near MOUNT RUSHMORE, Custer State Park (for the ultimate viewing of buffalo, elk, antelope, wild burros and other wildlife), Wind Cave National Park, Jewel Cave National Monument, Crazy Horse Memorial, Black Elk Wilderness, Needles Highway, Cathedral Spires, mountain lakes (Sheridan, Pactola, Sylvan, Deerfield, Stockade, Legion, Bismarck), BLACK ELK PEAK formerly Harney Peak, Norbeck Scenic Byway, the 111 mile long Centennial Trail, and so much more to see and do!
